The best way to get the most out of them is run them at lower voltages, around 3-6 volts. You can accomplish this by wiring the four chips in series (+ to - in daisy chain) to get 3 volts per chip with a 12 volts power supply, or 2 in series, 2 in parallel for 6V per chip. 6V is ideal if you want freezing output and 3V is ideal for general "air conditioning" type work where you want cooling without freezing.
